Part of the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) function in the aerospace sector, licensed aircraft engineers are involved in line or base maintenance for an airline or outsourced supplier. There are several categories of licensed engineer: A - unlicensed/technician, B1- airframe/powerplant, B2 avionics/electronic systems or C - supervisor/final sign off. A licensed aircraft engineer can specialise in rotorcraft or fixed wing and will need to have or acquire a type rating for each of the aircraft that they work on to satisfy EASA regulations.
