The Babcock International Group offers a complete range of design, build and support solutions across both defence and commercial sectors. In addition to its traditional refit and maintenance role, Babcock is increasingly working at the earlier stages of major warship design and construction programmes. Babcock is a Prime Support Contractor to the Royal Navy, providing comprehensive through-life support for submarines, surface ships and equipments. Babcock undertakes in-service support and capability upgrades of existing vessels and systems and works at all stages of the life cycle from initial concept design through manufacture to installation, commissioning, operation and disposal. The company also provides planning and management of integrated programmes, technical and logistics support and comprehensive data management services. Babcock provides specialised ship and superyacht design and build through its Appledore and Devonport facilities and is involved in a number of new platform programmes.

Today, Babcock employs about 4,800 people and has an annual turnover of about £400 million. The company is the largest private sector employer in Devon and Cornwall.

Working in Partnership

In 2002 Matchtech won the Industrial labour contract at Babcock, supplying skilled marine trades contractors on a sole agency basis.

In 2003 Matchtech also won the Non-Industrial contract supplying technical and commercial permanent and contract staff on a "Managed Service" basis.

We now act as Master Vendors and manage all agency recruitment for Babcock. This ensures Babcock has one billing point for the majority of its recruitment costs.
