BAE Systems' Surface Ships business is a leader in the design, manufacture, integration and support of naval ships, delivering complex engineering, integration and through-life support across the lifecycle of a vessel.

With operations in Glasgow, Portsmouth and Filton near Bristol, it employs over 7,000 people and has the facilities, skills and partnerships to set the global standard in excellence as a trusted and innovative through-life surface warship partner in both the UK and export markets.

It is currently building six Type 45 Destroyers for the UK Royal Navy, three Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Royal Navy of Oman and three Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Construction also began on the Queen Elizabeth class carriers on the Clyde in July, with work on the carriers set to begin in Portsmouth in February 2010.

Working in Partnership

Matchtech began supplying BAE Systems Surface Ships (formerly BVT Surface Fleet Ltd) with trade staff over 10 years ago to what was then VT Shipbuilding. In 2002, a partnership was formed under a master vendor contract to provide all its contract and permanent requirements in the south.

This contract was extended in 2005 when Fleet Support Ltd (already a joint venture between BAE Systems and VT Group) decided to come under the scope of the agreement and was re-signed under the name of BVT Surface Fleet Ltd in 2008. This was transferred to BAE Systems Surface Ships in October 2009 when the company became wholly owned by BAE Systems.
