Principal Engineer - Structural Engineering (Shock & Dynamics)
Our client, a leading defence and security company, is seeking a Principal Engineer - Structural Engineering (Shock & Dynamics) to join their team. This is a contract position within the Defence sector.

The role
As an Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will ensure structures and equipment are verified against naval shock requirements. You will set requirements for sub systems to ensure overall boat requirements are met. You will manage sub-system maturity in relation to naval shock and will provide design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design reviews.

  • Management and setting of requirements
  • Set sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
  • Manage verification and validation (V&V) evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
  • Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases

Key skills required

  • Awareness of setting functional requirements and managing V&V evidence
  • Experience of undertaking structural design calculations (i.e. bolted joints / bending moment / shear stress)
  • Understanding of material strength properties and limits

This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a BPSS check as part of this process. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC and you must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship and have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum 5 year period. The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
