Important: Marine or heavy structural steel experience
Introduction:
You will be involved in the construction of new surface ships based at our shipbuilding facility in Portsmouth
Job Specification:
You will be based in the berth erection hall, where the building of the ships is completed. The finished Units are delivered from the unit building hall and are joined together here. The ships are also painted and out fitted in this Hall. The shop is clean & well-ordered and all trade disciplines work here together.
You will be required to:
Understand and follow written and/or oral instructions
Understand and follow health & safety arrangements
Interpret and, Work from 2 dimensional drawings, and x, y, z, co-ordinate hot-work drawings
Have ALL the basic hand skills, i.e.; Burning & chamfering of thick and thin plate. Tack welding and short run fillet welding.
Accurate Marking off, and measurement using Tapes straight edges, Levels, squares, string/chalk lines, and plumb bobs
Ability to use a Dumpy level and laser plane level
Use of grinder and changing discs
Experience in use of strong-backs and fairing aids to prevent distortion.
Bending and forming of thick and thin plate
Have some form of Q.C inspection or process experience
Experience within a steelwork or marine environment is essential.
Due to matters of national security, only British citizens can be considered for this role
An enhanced rate is paid to all non-local contractors to cover accommodation and travel. All contractors completing their contract will also receive a 5% completion bonus based on all hours worked.
Rates for local contractors are:
Paye £9.42 (plus £0.96 holiday credit) for day shift, £11.76 (plus £1.20 holiday credit) for late shift, £12.52 (plus £1.27 holiday credit) for night shift.
Limited £11.71 for day shift, £14.61 for late shift and £15.56 for night shift.
Non local contractors:
Paye £10.63 (plus £1.08 holiday credit) for day shift, £13.29 (plus £1.35 holiday credit) for late shift, £14.14 (plus £1.44 holiday credit) for night shift.
Limited £13.21 for day shift, £16.52 for late shift and £17.57 for night shift.
This role is for BVT Surface Fleet Ltd, a joint venture between BAE and VT Group.
