Job Specification:

New Supply Chain Manager requirement for a leading defence communications manufacturer & service provider. As an experienced Supply Chain Manager you will add demonstrable value to the Bid process, supporting the business development & Project Management teams; managing & developing suppliers relationships & improving the Procurement & Supply process

Reporting to the Head of Commercial and Supply Chain you will provide support to the business through implementing effective Supply Chain processes and activities leading to a step change improvement in business performance.

We are looking for an independent, motivated & dynamic candidate from an engineering, technology or project based environment specialising in supply chain with proven supplier development experience. Team management experience not essential as you will have no direct reports


Key Result areas
Define strategic sourcing best practices - provide expertise through example and leadership.

Effectively contribute to bids and projects by proactively managing the Supply Chain activities:
o Identify cost drivers on a bid/project and suggest and implement an appropriate procurement strategy;
o Own the mechanics of the Supplier tendering process;
o Lead or participate (as appropriate) in negotiation of supplier contracts and agree preferential terms for the business. working closely with the
Commercial Team;
o Manage supply risk through implementation of effective and robust procurement strategies and processes and engagement with suppliers
o Ensure that appropriate procurement activities are derived and implemented for each bid and project, aligned to business goals and the individual needs of the project, resulting in added value to the business and winning new business

Provide assistance and guidance to cross functional departments in implementing suitable best practice and identification of cost saving methods.
Identify value adding opportunities in collaboration with suppliers, business units and other key stakeholders. Resolve barriers to achieve business plans.
Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies.
Maintain key supplier relationships through successful evaluation, negotiation and coordination with suppliers and stakeholders on key strategic issues. Communicate and embed best practice supplier management process and practices across the board.

Establish performance metrics to monitor effectiveness and efficiency of supplier activities in support of business.
Facilitate forging of strategic partnerships and alliances with key suppliers.
Facilitate working in cross-functional teams with groups of stakeholders to achieve a joined-up approach to strategic procurement; ensure effective governance and control around supply chain activities



Qualifications and Experience:
MCIPS qualified
Proven relevant experience obtained within a Technological/Project environment
Demonstrable experience in cost reduction achieved through effective engagement with the Supply Chain
Good understanding of and proven success in strategic procurement for projects and bids
Demonstrable experience in implementation of best Procurement practice

Good numeric skills and understanding of business and cost drivers
Able to present management information at appropriate level to achieve maximum impact and aid decision-making
Basic technical competence, e.g. understanding specifications
Ability to ensure compliance with procurement best practice by stakeholders
Good project management and organisation skills
General business awareness

Computer literate: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Navision
Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills
Proactive and flexible approach to work with positive attitude
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Ability to take accountability and responsibility for the project
Commitment and ability to meet deadlines
Ability and willingness to travel, occasionally, throughout the UK



Salary: 40-45k
