The Job
Purpose of the Job
Working within the Product Validation department the Product Validation Engineer will be involved with all aspects of verification, validation, life testing, and predictive analysis of their electronic gas detectors.
This is a "hands on" role involving the writing & implementation of test plans, providing technical support to product validation projects, conducting returns investigations, out of box audits and life testing activities using technical skills together with statistical and predictive tools and calculations. The role will also involve applying technical knowledge to the specification, design and construction of test jigs and fixtures.
The role will suit a candidate with broad engineering and test skills who can think outside the box to quickly analyse a product and devise a comprehensive test set to validate safety, function and performance within a tight programme schedule. Full training will be given on specialist activities such as the use of gas testing equipment and the predictive tools.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Write and develop detailed validation test plans for gas detection products.
2. Implement those plans by setting up and running appropriate experimental equipment and leading colleagues in conducting those tests
3. Supervise the execution of own Product Validation projects, as well as contributing technical expertise and experience into other PV projects
4. Complete the analysis of data and written reports in a professional and timely manner.
5. Devise and execute product life test programs
6. Specify, design, construct and maintain electro-mechanical test jigs
7. Specify any capital equipment required
8. Support and develop the introduction of new electronic gas detection products using Six Sigma techniques. Mandatory Green belt training within the first year.
9. Understanding of statistical and other predictive analytical tools such as accelerated life testing and failure analysis calculations
10. Complete detailed audits of new and existing products against written procedures and specifications.
11. Report on issues found ensuring that customers only receive fully functional products.
12. Confidently facilitate Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) reviews
Education Required
1. HNC (preferably Degree) in Electrical / Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics. However exceptional candidates with other qualifications & relevant work experience may be considered.
Work Experience Required
1. Solid experience in the design, development or validation of electronic based equipment.
2. Previous experience of a light manufacturing environment.
3. Construction and use of bespoke Electronic / Mechanical equipment for testing and data acquisition.
4. Knowledge and experience of formal reliability techniques.
5. Experience of conducting Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) or Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT).
6. Confident with basic statistical methods & other analysis techniques.
7. Fluent in use of MS Excel with experience in the automation of data processing using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
8. Be able to devise & conduct black box testing of products with significant embedded software content. Knowledge of embedded software and white box testing would be an advantage.
