The success of the company in winning design packages on these projects has resulted in a need to recruit a high calibre Design Manager capable of coordinating and taking responsibility for the technical delivery of project designs. WSP has established a strong supply chain relationship with industry specialists including architects, cost consultants and other fellow construction professionals and the inclusion of these in our teams form an integral part of our multi-disciplinary offering to our clients.
The WSP Management team is looking for a motivated and experienced Lead Design Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to work on key rail projects within the London area.

ROLE PROFILE

The role will be based in London at either our Chancery Lane office or an office co-located with our client and industry partners. The office base could change but will always remain in the London area.

Reporting to the Project Director the role is responsible for leading multi-disciplinary teams on transport infrastructure projects. Working closely with the Project Manager, this role will be responsible for delivering a fully integrated design in accordance with clients requirements.

The individual will have full ownership of Design Assurance and be ultimately responsible for the quality of the design work produced for the project.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Suitable candidates will:

?? Come from a design consultancy background or rail client background and will have experience of managing large multidisciplinary design teams.
?? Possess excellent all round technical knowledge and understand the key factors in contributing to outstanding design and exceeding clients’ expectations.
?? Will have worked on the lifecycle of rail design projects and recognise how different technical skills and backgrounds can be utilised and adapted.
?? Degree qualified
?? Hold Chartered engineering status
?? Possess significant design experience in a multi-disciplinary team on major projects
?? Have a positive can do attitude and the ability to motivate others
?? Have a knowledge and appreciation of other engineering disciplines together with a good understanding of architectural culture
?? Passion for technical excellence as well as an understanding of VFM and delivery to programme
?? Confidence to challenge designers, client and stakeholders
?? Good knowledge and understanding of construction methodology, techniques and logistics
?? Ability to work with and for Contractors
