Introduction

A large Nuclear Defence client are looking for Project Planners / Planning Engineers who have experience of using Primavera P6.

The Job

ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR MOD SECURITY CLEARANCE

Key Accountabilities:

  • For implementing best practice project planning policy, processes and procedures on projects;
  • For developing and incorporating critical path, resource and programme risk analysis into resource allocations and the monitoring and reporting of progress against that planned;
  • For progressing programmes, monitoring and reporting on project performance, highlighting deviations, providing early warnings and identifying and presenting project slippage recovery strategies;
  • For summarising data through the programme hierarchy from detail to summary levels;
  • For developing and managing a database to capture and identify work rate norms and trends, earned value and performance indicators; &
  • For responding to customer feedback on planning performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain buy-in to the schedule from the whole project team and co-ordinate schedule interfaces between the different control areas;
  • Develop work breakdown structures in accordance with planning procedures and work instructions;
  • Work closely with the project cost/ risk engineer and estimator to provide a seamless service;
  • Develop and promote with others in the planning management community:
    a) Best Practice processes, procedures, tools and techniques and mechanisms for their practical application.
    b) The highest degree of professional application in the planning discipline and working relationships.
  • Assist in the overall delivery of the project by the team;
  • Assist continuous improvement of safety and performance;
  • Assist graduate and staff development; &
  • Support development of directorate and company policy and strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally a relevant technical qualification in engineering, science or business, probably at HND or higher. Plus experience in the use of Primavera P3e (P5 or P6).

Knowledge:

  • Undertaking planning for the life cycle of a project. Particular experience of the design procurement and construction of a variety of facilities including accommodation, infrastructure, manufacturing, research and testing facilities in both conventional and hazardous environments;
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of technical standards and regulatory requirements for the design and construction appropriate to both conventional and hazardous environments;
  • Understanding of the influences of design and operation on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site;
  • Knowledge and use of earned value techniques;
  • Understanding of the inter-relationships of multidiscipline design activities and their impact onto procurement and construction activities; &
  • Understanding of NEC Contract.

Experience:

  • Must have relevant experience of planning industrial engineering and construction projects within both conventional and hazardous environments. Nuclear Experience will be advantageous, however applications from Pharmaceutical, Rail & Oil / Gas will also be reviewed.

Skills:

  • Good technical skills including problem solving and decision making;
  • Familiarity with standard office software including Project, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook; &
  • Competence with proprietary planning software (ideally Primavera P5 or P6).
