The Job
My client, a global Control System firm and Systems Integrator working within the Oil & Gas sector have an ongoing high-volume workload and as a result of which have an opportunity for a Lead Control System Engineer.
The department you will be joining has advanced engineering tools, and has experience integrating systems of all sizes. It has an impressive history of solid state, relay, PLC, and micro-processor based technologies and has created all types of system packages for HIPS, SCADA, F&G, ESD, process control and DCS.
Chosen candidates will be able to demonstrate a diverse set of technical skills and product knowledge, with the ability to work on both hardware and software across various platforms and demonstrable experience of engineering design within the Control and Instrumentation environment.
Sought after experience is in software design experience of PLC / HMI or DCS based control systems. Application experience of third party systems integration detailed knowledge of communications protocols. Hardware design experience relating to control system equipment (panels, control desks and control rooms) and integration of other manufacturers equipment.
A demonstrable leadership quality whether it be in assisting other members of staff or overall responsibility for a team is essential. At Lead grade, supporting departmental appraisals and recruitment, being a team player with the ability to motivate and encourage team project members is important. You will have successfully commissioned, maintained and potential managed upgraded system installations.
At Lead Engineer level, the role carries influence therefore good attention to detail and high standards across your work are important.
You may be Degree qualified or a proven solid track record in industry. Ideally you should also hold (or be prepared to take) an offshore medical and survival certificate. Registration as a professional engineer with a recognised body would also be preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also a must. The ability to work independently and be self-motivated is also key.
Proven track record in engineering, commissioning, trouble-shooting, maintaining and upgrading complex control and safety systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA, Fire & Gas and ESD). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers at any level of the organisation.
Experience in the Oil & Gas industry is preferred but not essential. Candidates must be prepared to travel to client sites (both in the UK and abroad) as required. Role dependant, there may be an element of offshore working.
