Role Purpose:
• To perform linear and non-linear static and dynamic analyses to prove out the structural integrity of all mechanical components, assemblies and products that are designed within the engineering team.
• To support the Lead Structural Engineer in the day to day running of the structural team to ensure deliverables are on time and adhere to specification
• Be an effective communicator to ensure peers fully understand your analytical results and purpose of your analyses undertaken
Role Accountabilities:
Accountable for the safe, reliable and optimised structural design of an aircraft seat across multiple programmes. Working with the Lead Structural Engineer, Engineering Team and Test/Certification Team to ensure that our products will meet the regulatory guidelines and requirements.
Role Activities:
• To develop and optimise the structural design of our seating products through performing complex linear and non-linear static and dynamic FE analyses. To provide timely and accurate CAE reports to support DVP and Project reviews.
• To develop and optimise the structural design of our seating products through performing, standardising and documenting analytical hand calculations, including determining interface loads into seating tracks.
• To support the Lead Structural Engineer in developing a right first time approach to engineering through analytical methodology development, procedures and documentation. This includes developing a strong correlation between testing and analytical methods.
• Build and maintain an intimate knowledge of relevant airworthiness regulations.
Experience Required:
Essential
• Strong Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
• FEA Modelling experience with Hyperworks or similar
• Demonstrable Experience in using a non-linear FEA system: Abaqus / LS-Dyna / Radioss / Nastran
• Extensive knowledge of non-linear materials behaviour
• Experience from an aviation or automotive sector
• Experience of a mechanical engineering related field utilising CAD and FEA for product optimisation and development
• To be capable of undertaking fundamental engineering hand calculations including determining loadcases and stress / stiffness analyses
• Must be an excellent communicator both verbally and written
• Must be capable of adapting to a fast and pressured environment
Desirable
• Experience of analysing dynamic high deceleration events with explicit FEA analysis
• Sufficient exposure to the latest manufacturing techniques
• Experience in working within an Aviation seating sector
• Extensive 3D CAD modelling experience esp Catia V5
• Composites design and analytical knowledge
