Job description


My client is one of the largest Police Forces in the UK and is based in the North of England who are currently in the process of expanding their Digital Policing Team.
As a result, they are currently seeking a Development Manager to lead a team of skilled Senior Developers in the delivery of strategic in-house Java-developed solutions and integration engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and influence the technical delivery of large-scale development streams within projects, in line with the Project Manager's specification.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to understand the requisite standards, frameworks and tooling constraints applied to security, data, technologies, and application development and ensure that these are successfully adhered to by the development team.
  • Supervise, train and allocate work to development staff, providing advice and guidance when required in order to enhance the services provided in support of systems.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of leading a software development team
  • Strong experience in RESTful Web Services, MVC frameworks, Apache Tomcat, JavaScript, HTML and CSS for user interface development, XML and JSON for data exchange and Oracle Databases
  • Extensive commercial experience in Java development language
  • Demonstrable experience of using Java Spring Framework


This is a hybrid role with a salary of up to £51,711 and a generous Pension scheme.

This role offers a flexible mix of home and office based working, as necessary, as well as offering agile working patterns where working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

What do I need?
 

    • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification, and/or have significant relevant experience

 

    • Experience of leading a software development team

 

    • Strong experience in RESTful Web Services, MVC frameworks, Apache Tomcat, Javascript, HTML and CSS for user interface development, XML and JSON for data exchange and Oracle Databases

 

    • Solid technical skills and experience in the full Software Delivery Lifecycle

 

    • Extensive commercial experience in Java development language

 

    • Demonstrable experience of using Java Spring Framework

 

    • Knowledge of Mulesoft for integration development would be advantageous but is not essential





The Role:

The successful candidate will manage and facilitate the Force's software development and integration engineering activities by directing, planning, prioritising work and providing consultation and guidance to the Development team to ensure that the requisite standards, frameworks and tooling constraints are adhered to in order to deliver an outstanding development service that successfully contributes to the strategic objectives of the Force.

You will also be expected to aid in problem solving, quality of delivery and design for new systems and integrations while enhancing existing systems as well as carrying out any required investigations to meet the strategic objectives of the Force.

What will I be doing?

    • You will manage and influence the technical delivery of large-scale development streams within projects, in line with the Project Manager's specification.

 

    • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to understand the requisite standards, frameworks and tooling constraints applied to security, data, technologies, and application development and ensure that these are successfully adhered to by the development team.

 

    • Manage development resourcing requests, working closely with the Development Support & Maintenance Manager to ensure that the relevant skilled and experienced resource is available at the requisite time to meet demand whilst protecting the capacity of the team to successfully deliver an outstanding support function.

 

    • Supervise, train and allocate work to development staff, providing advice and guidance when required in order to enhance the services provided in support of systems.

 

    • Work closely with Digital Policing Management to ensure the provision of a fully integrated efficient, effective and customer focused development service
