Job description

NATS is the UK's leading Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). Every year we handle 2.6 million flights and keep 250 million passengers safe whilst in UK airspace. We provide air traffic management (ATM) services to 13 airports in the UK as well as providing these services around the world spanning Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America.

Systems Engineer - Air Traffic Control Communication Systems

We have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join our Air Traffic Control Systems Communications team. The team is responsible for delivering ATC Communication system projects for new and upgraded systems such as Voice Communication Control Systems (VCCS), Digital Networks and ATC Radio Systems across our airport sites. In addition, the team provides on-going expertise and support to over 17 airports.
As an ATC Systems Engineer, you would be part of a Technical Services team responsible for the specification, implementation, acceptance and support of airport Communication Systems throughout their life cycle. You will be expected to take the role of project manager for the delivery of systems as required, co-ordinating your own resources in support of a replacement project or investigation into operational performance. You would also act as the Engineering Authority (EA) on systems assigned to you by the System Design Authority (SDA), in order to provide expert advice and assistance to the airports where we provide an engineering service.
Essential skills and experience:

  • You would be expected to hold at least an HND in a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience of working on ATC VCCS, radio and Networking systems is required.
  • Experience of working on ATC systems in a design, installation or maintenance role would be an advantage.
  • You need to have good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show appropriate behaviours and attitudes for working on safety critical systems.
  • As our customers' sites are based around the UK you must be willing to travel and hold a UK driving licence.
