Job description

Purpose of Role

Ensures water treatment works are maintained, enabling the effective production of safe drinking water. Ensures all equipment at the treatment works is operating safely and efficiently, using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. Provide M&E support and expertise of the water treatment works and associated Distribution network assets. Maintain, repair and install M&E plant to ensure reliable and efficient function of all assets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensure compliance with planned maintenance schedules.
* Maintain, diagnose, repair, modify, configure, commission low voltage switchgear, motor drives, valves, gas dosing equipment, pneumatic plant, pumps and motors.
* Visiting water treatment works, pumping stations, reservoirs, monitoring asset performance and operability of the water treatment works across sites and to carry out essential duties.
* Collect asset performance data, recording routine activities and work completed.
* Demonstrate an ability to read, understand and work from electrical drawings.
* Respond to breakdowns on a range of M&E plant, assess problems, decide on action, acquire spares and carry out repairs as necessary.
* Ensure that equipment is maintained and calibrated to the manufacturers specifications and is auditable.
* Supervise team members and assist with their development and learning.
* To exchange information with other team members, plant operators and departments within the Company as required.
* To complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner to maintain internal change control standards.
* To implement control system modifications.
* Monitoring of external activities in the areas surrounding our works for any activities that may affect the integrity of the water sources, asset reliability, available leakage measures, and levels of unplanned outage.

* Recommend design changes, if necessary, to ensure that plant continues to function efficiently and effectively to maintain levels of service.
* Maintain chemical-dosing systems to enable efficient control of water treatment, responding to faults and operational changes to optimise levels of service.
* Assess and optimise energy on site and carry out checks for safety, security, and productivity, reporting any faults, issues and concerns that need escalation.

Qualifications & Experience

1. A to C grade or Level 4 or above, GSCE English, Maths and a Science based subject.
2. ONC / Level 3 In electrical or mechanical engineering and a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant field within water utility or similar industry or equivalent experience as specified below.
3. BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
4. Relevant experience in a process and industrial environment.
5. Experience implementing process improvements via control system modifications and experience in diagnosing and fixing complex process and control system faults.
6. Knowledge of Chemical Handling.
7. Knowledge of basic hydraulic principles.
8. Proficient with working from electrical drawings.
9. Experience of working with Human Machine Interface (HMI) / touchscreen devices
10. A good understanding of water treatment processes and / or water industry exposure.
11. Computer and smart phone literate.
12. Full UK driving licence (Will be required to undertake our driver assessment).

Desirable Requirements upon Appointment or to be achieved as part of the Initial Training Requirements

1. Industry water operations certificate - Level 2 Water Operations
2. EUSR National Water Hygiene (Blue) Card
3. SHEA Water
4. Emergency First Aid
5. Current Electrical Installation Regulations qualification.
6. Experience in inspecting, testing, maintaining, fault finding and repairing M&E equipment.
7. Experience, training in, or practical understanding of risk assessments
8. Legionella Awareness
9. Calibration / Maintenance Techniques
10. Manual Handling
11. High risk confined space qualified / Experience of Working in Confined Space. (including the use of self-contained breathing apparatus).
