The government has recently backed the UK to undergo a nuclear renaissance as around a quarter of the UK's generating capacity is due to close by the end of this decade. Nuclear Power Stations have been selected as a suitable replacement as it will provide affordable and low carbon energy to our nation.
The proposal is to start constructing 8 new nuclear power stations over the next 25 years with the first to begin construction in 2013 at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. Each Power Station is going to require around £4 Billion investment with a work force during construction of around 5,000, creating 800 operational jobs once the construction has been completed per site.
