Job description

About the role

Working as part of the Product Development team, you will apply your embedded firmware engineering skills to lead the design and development of control software for commercial products for use in applications including automotive and industrial power systems.

You will deliver embedded control firmware and simulations for systems and system components from early prototypes to fully developed products, ensuring that software is delivered following a robust design, development and validation process.

You will have responsibility for the appropriate use of the firmware toolchain and supporting development tools including version control and configuration management.
Collaborating with other functional teams including electronics and systems engineering, you will be responsible for specification development from customer and internal requirements.
You will conduct hands on test, validation and debug of system firmware on the target product to facilitate development and understanding of systems in a real-world environment, responsible for firmware design of control architectures and interfaces to systems to facilitate debug and analysis.

About you

You will hold a BEng, BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or possess a relevant non-degree level qualification alongside suitable industrial experience. Typically, you will have 5 years of relevant industrial experience. Membership of a relevant professional body, progressing towards chartered status is advantageous. You will have had personal experience in developing software to Automotive or Aerospace standards such as ISO26262 or DO-178.
You will be able to demonstrate experience in the development of control systems and simulations in the Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow environment and compile these to control hardware using autocoders and the c programming language.

Experience of using real world hardware through sensors and actuators using a variety of protocols including CAN and RS232 is essential, as is a strong background in Simulink development for embedded targets and simulation.
You will have proven capability of delivering work packages on time and to commercial and technical requirements.
It is key to us that you have a commercial mindset and the ability to work with a flexible and solutions focused approach, in an agile and fast paced environment. You must also be able to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team alongside both technical and non-technical colleagues. As such, excellent communication skills are vital.
