Highway Structures Inspections

The Job

As a Senior Bridge Inspector, you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Reviewing previous inspection reports and defect data as a desk top study
  • Undertaking inspections of Highway Structures within arranged road space managed areas, plant and access equipment.
  • Assisting the Inspection Manager with planning & programming for Inspection of highway and rail bridges.
  • Drafting the description of defects and defect codes in the client's reporting database
  • Preparing defect sketches
  • Drafting recommendations for remedial works
  • Supervise and mentor junior inspectors in both the office and on-site, checking the inspection reports of junior members of the team, namely description of defects and defect codes, defect sketches and remedial recommendations.
  • Assisting the team with programme and progress updates.
  • Liaison with clients and other third parties as requested by the team
  • Care/maintenance of inspection equipment
  • Assist with the commercial and financial control of your project

Minimum Requirements

You will be a pro-active and self-driven individual with a combination of the following:

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in bridge inspections, ideally on TFL Network, standards and asset management database.
  • BICS Accredited or working towards
  • BTEC Level 3 as a minimum, ideally ICE Engineering Technician (EngTech)
  • Good understanding of working in traffic management / Chapter 8 knowledge
  • A commitment to comply with Health and Safety at Work and meeting the needs of our Clients
  • A good understanding of standard computer software packages, MS Office, AutoCAD
  • Be responsible for project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation
  • Current UK driving licence required, previous experience of driving short and long wheel-based vehicles desirable

Good working knowledge of:

  • CD450 (formally BD 63/07) 'The inspection of Highway Structures '
  • County Surveyors Society Volume 2 Bridge Inspection Reporting
  • TfL Guidance documents on materials and elements - Severity Descriptions
  • Traffic Management layouts on the Transport for London Road Network / Chapter 8 layouts.
  • Good communication skills and an enthusiastic attitude to work
