The Job

What you will be doing…

As a Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of all production equipment and systems in order to drive optimum product quality and throughput. Ensuring targets and quality standards are achieved and maintained using all available resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a good understanding of core mechanical technologies including but not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics, belt and chain drives and mechanical lifting mechanisms/equipment and conveyors.
  • Develop a good basic understanding of electrical principles covering 12/24v through to 415v supplies and associated hardware including contactors, relays, fuses and isolators.
  • Build & maintain a sound understanding of Preventative Maintenance (PM) methodologies.
  • Develop ability to use PC based diagnostic equipment for establishing fault locations on automated equipment.
  • Develop in role to enable effective use of technical and engineering skills and knowledge in a logical, practical, applied way to solve problems, whether previously experienced or not.
  • When assigned ensure Preventative Maintenance (PM), follows the established plan for each piece of equipment, effectively addressing any additional items encountered. Pro-actively reporting additional issues to the Maintenance Manager so that an appropriate opportunity can be found to re-visit and address the outages.
  • Build and maintain awareness of the state of play in Production to assist in effective prioritisation of the day to day workload, ensuring production needs to deliver on time are met.
  • Develop skill base and experience to minimise the amount of time any machine outage takes, by working with an appropriate sense of urgency and timeliness.
  • Work with quality teams to evaluate KPI's and ascertain what impact the equipment has on these results. Proactively providing input where necessary via the Maintenance Manager to improve results.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by working safely in accordance with site Risk Assessments, Health & Safety procedures and rules at all times.

What we are looking for…

  • A proven track record in maintenance working on automated machinery
  • Experience in preventative maintenance and breakdown duties
  • The ability to work alone or as part of a team in a positive manner
  • Working calmly under pressure and to a deadline
  • Completed an Engineering Apprenticeship / Minimum ONC, City and Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Advanced Electrical and Mechanical Skills
  • Advanced understanding of automated equipment
  • Good understanding of PLC's to include fault finding
  • Knowledge and understanding of networked systems
  • Proven ability to diagnose faults and solve problems in a wide variety of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Good understanding of manuals, and drawings
  • Write work based instructions and SOP's
  • Come up with continuous improvement ideas and implement
  • Previous experience in Automated FMCG industries
  • Complete audits - spares/5S/software backups
  • Order spares and implement budget improvements
