The Job

Senior Systems Engineer

We are looking for a fantastic Senior Systems Engineer to help us build the technology
to create a new "operating system" for cities, solving congestion, prioritising walking and
cycling, and eliminating accidents.

About Vivacity

At Vivacity, we make cities smarter. We provide the operating system for road transport,
helping cities apply modern technology to problems like congestion, air pollution, and
adapting to the autonomous vehicle transition.

This starts with our computer vision-based sensors, which provide real-time data to
understand accident blackspots, inform infrastructure changes, and support
autonomous vehicles. This data is fed into our cutting-edge Reinforcement Learning
algorithms for traffic lights to prioritise cyclists and reduce congestion.

We are a fast-growing, 70-person startup, with a presence in most major cities across
the UK. Following £5m of investment earlier this year, we are doubling the size of our
team, including heavy investment in technology. Join us to help our ultimate goal to
make the European vision of a Smart City - one which makes the city work for the
community.

About the role

We are currently rolling out thousands of sensors across the UK, Europe and beyond,
and seeking a passionate Systems Engineer to join our team. This role will have the
opportunity to develop and deliver cutting-edge technology on projects that help deliver
a societal benefit, while internally working alongside a world leading AI research team.

You will have a key role in developing our new sensor hardware as we move to the
latest generation of GPU accelerated edge processing hardware. You will be able to see
the results of your work deployed across thousands of locations in the UK and around
the world.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is interested in real-world application of
technology to join a fast-growing technology company and apply their knowledge and
skills to the development of our cutting-edge, AI-enabled products.

Requirements for the role

● 3+ years experience in electrical, systems, or software engineering, following a
technical degree, or 5+ years relevant experience without a degree
● Experience contributing to, or managing research and development projects
● Genuine passion for engineering and technology
● Thrives in flat, less structured startup environments
● Strong communication skills, particularly when working cross-functionally and
with clients to understand requirements

The following would further strengthen your application

● Project management experience
● Experience in software engineering or scripting
● Familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu)
● Hands-on electronic design, schematic capture and PCB layout
● Experience working with design and manufacturing contractors to take a
electronics product into production
● Experience in Smart Cities or connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) projects
