Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Manager to join their Regional team working out of Wokingham.


Previous experience in a similar role is essential

The Job

The ideal candidate will provide management, leadership and control of all works relating to utility diversions or new utility installations; the will represent the best interests of our client and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities (General)

  • Has the organisation and prioritisation skills to effectively manage applicable stakeholder, whilst maintaining the project objectives;
  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests and implements improvements to systems;
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity, including managing others in this regard;
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights when required;
  • Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility and supervise others in this regard;
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. SMSTS qualified.

Health Safety & Environmental

  • Provides input into utility specific / Incident Investigations. Reviews and appraises findings and leads / directs the appropriate action arising;
  • Appraises improvement options and leads action / instigates as appropriate;
  • Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System in relation to utilities and associated processes;
  • Keeps up to date with changes in legislation and cascades information to the team;
  • Provide technical advice on standoff distances and permits in line with BMS;
  • Competent to sign of permits and set an example to wider engineering team;
  • Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation.


  • Ensure all stat diversions and new stats Infrastructure is communicated to the designers and updated on the main construction drawings;
  • Review C4 Quotations and advise where contestable plant and labour attendance and civils work is required to be undertaken by the client;
  • Plan and monitor any plant/labour attendance to new and diverted stats;
  • Ensure traffic management requirements for utility supplier is either accounted for in client Traffic Management Plan or provided for by utility supplier contractor;
  • Produce allocation sheets and diary information of Utility Contractors attendance/progress.


  • Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project objectives and monitors performance;
  • Ensures site audits are undertaken and takes appropriate action on the findings;
  • Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate;
  • Implements systems and processes;
  • Involved in working groups focused on Improvement Areas.


  • Ensure contract and short-term programme durations are correct;
  • Produce a weekly and updated stats tracker and issue to site team;
  • Produce a weekly and updated stats tracker and issue to site team;
  • Update site team during regular site meetings of progress with utility suppliers;
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with utility companies ;
  • Coordinate meetings with individual utility suppliers.


  • Strong leadership and management skills, including pursuit of formal qualification;
  • Wide ranging independent judgement evident, proven track record in this regard;
  • Has achieved professional accreditation (eg ICE, IHT);
  • Has a proven track record of managing multiple stakeholder, displaying the organisational skills required;
  • Used of CAD is beneficial but not a requirement.
