I have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Highways Engineer to join my clients Design Team working on a wide range of projects from maintenance to major road improvement schemes. The role will be based in Cambridgeshire.

As a Senior Highways Engineer, you will need a very high level of technical competence in highway engineering design. You will ensure the technical quality of part of a major portfolio of highway works, embracing collaborative working and helping to drive cashable efficiencies. We are seeking candidates with experience in the design of new highways as well as those who are experienced in the design of maintenance schemes on the trunk road and motorway network.

Senior Highways Engineer Role:
Ø You will be designing a wide variety of highway projects at all stages of the project lifecycle from concept to in-use maintenance on the local and strategic highway network.
Ø Creating solutions ready for construction for highway projects that embrace innovation.
Ø Leading the technical input into new schemes or portfolios of maintenance designs to the highest appropriate technical standards within time, quality, and budget constraints.
Ø Engaging with contractors to support the design development.
Ø Identifying and specifying surveys, studies, and other work necessary to support the design.
Ø Undertaking/supporting the preparation of tender and contract documentation to various forms of contract.
Ø Supporting clients, senior managers, and others on technical aspects of designs from project initiation through to completion.
Ø Mentoring and supporting team members, taking responsibility for their technical development.
Ø Preparing design resource estimates and assisting the project manager in managing projects.
Ø Ensuring compliance with quality systems and client performance criteria.
Ø Ensuring project commercial factors are effectively managed and re-work minimised.
Ø Engaging with clients, contractors and stakeholders and building relationships, working collaboratively to ensure successful project outcomes.
Ø Encouraging innovation and continuous improvement to provide efficiency savings.
Ø Ensuring effective risk management strategies are implemented.

Senior Highway Engineer Requirements:
Ø BEng or Meng in Civil Engineering (or similar).
Ø Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and experience).
Ø Experience of designing highway engineering solutions that are; ready for construction, embrace innovation and offer appropriate solutions to achieve project objectives within programme and budget constraints.
Ø Proven capability and experience in geometric design of links and all types of junctions with experience in highway drainage design including flood storage and environmental constraints.
Ø The ability to work within a BIM2 environment with an understanding of proprietary, industry standard design software.
Ø Excellent communication skills, with the proven ability to motivate, coach and develop team members at all levels (early careers, through to experienced engineers).
Ø Some great examples of leading and delivering projects for a diverse range of Clients.
Ø Experience of designing highway engineering solutions in accordance with the DMRB that are ready for construction.
Ø Good interpersonal skills working collaboratively with others.
Ø Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
Ø Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills with ability to manage the work of others.
Ø Ability to focus and deliver whilst working within programme and budget constraints.
Ø A desire to help others and contribute to the capability of the business.
Ø A full UK driving license would be an advantage.
Ø Be a proactive and enthusiastic individual with good existing client relationships. An eye for detail and confidence to challenge decisions and concepts in a constructive way are key attributes for this role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
