The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.

This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a Criminal Record Check. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC. In addition, this role involves direct access to ITAR Material. Therefore we can only consider UK Nationals for this position. Job Description

This role sits at the centre of our major drive towards creating Engineering Facilities for the future through the use of a systems engineering approach to our requirements gathering and concept development with our Project Architects and other specialist Engineers.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Systems Engineering will involve:

  • Understanding our customers' challenging needs and acting as a subject matter expert; analysing, preparing and communicating these through the use of architectural methodologies
  • Supporting the development of our Requirements packages in line with the Architectural RIBA 3 lifecycle stage through workshops, presentations and direct support to other Engineering teams.
  • Taking accountability for technical work packages, presentations and documentation.
  • The provision of advice and recommendations, based on expertise and experience, to address infrastructure owner needs.
  • To draw on specialist knowledge and experience in the organisation; to maintain a network of recognised experts who can deliver expert advice in areas relevant to the organisation's current and future infrastructure needs.
  • The collaborative creation and iteration of viable specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • The elicitation, analysis, specification and validation of requirements and constraints to a level that enables effective development and operation of RIBA Stage 3.
  • Providing leadership, guidance and coaching to other engineers
  • Steering new systems development through implementation of best practice systems lifecycle processes
Additional Information


  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
  • Experience undertaking Systems Engineering activities. This should include some combination of:
  • Requirements Engineering and Management
  • Systems Integration, Verification and Validation
  • Implementing and Governing Engineering Lifecycles
  • Defining and managing System interfaces
  • Understanding of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations


  • Practical experience with DOORs, or similar requirements management and Systems Modelling toolsets.
  • Practical knowledge of the RIBA Architectural Stages of Project Management

  • Configuration Management (policy and implementation)
