Job description

Our client is looking for a Principal Hardware Design Engineer to join their team at either Portsmouth or New Malden. We are looking for someone who has experience certifying standards & procedures, and can support Systems Engineers to sign off products.

Main responsibilities:

  • Prepare hardware specifications, develop hardware designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out hardware design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
  • Carry out complex hardware analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of hardware options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
  • Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
  • Act as a point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
  • Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids.
  • Support Product Design Certification activities including Product Safety & Environmental matters

What we are looking for in you:

  • Ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment
  • Possesses good knowledge in a number of the following areas:
    • COTS Hardware
    • Hardware design aspects
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Platform installation
    • Environmental testing
    • Hardware acceptance process
  • Knowledge of the Design Certification process or similar

Additional information:

  • This is a hybrid working role - likely 2-3 days per week on site at either Portsmouth or New Malden

  • Security requirements: SC + ITAR

This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a Criminal Record Check and you must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC. In addition, this role involves direct access to ITAR Material, therefore we can only consider UK Nationals for this position. The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
