Job description

Outline of Duties:

  • Ensure safe systems of work are carried out
  • Read/lnterpret Mechanical / Pipe Drawings
  • Pipe fabrication up to 38 mm
  • Taking wires and setting to boards
  • Braze both silver and soft solder to class 1 standards
  • Test pipework on completion of manufacture Install pipework into various systems

Additional Key Accountabilities:

  1. Work as an integral part of the Ship Delivery Team
  2. Undertake additional training to be able to undertake extraneous duties to support the production team.
  3. Flexible approach to delivering work at various sites if required.

General Information

  • Based in HM Glasgows Naval Base, RFA and commercial vessels employed as an industrial Pipeworker / Plumber.
  • Personnel must have served a recognised apprenticeship, preferably within the ship build or ship repair industry.
  • Have a deep understanding of manufacture and repair work and be able to carry out the various techniques used in ship repair and support industry.
  • Suitable candidates will have a good understanding of safe systems of work including mechanical work, tag-out, confined spaces, working at height and RN specific safety operations.
  • A sound knowledge of all pipework systems and materials including connectors, adaptors, couplings and fastenings is essential as is the ability to braze to required standards, class 1 . A deep understanding of all domestic plumbing within a ship environment, removal and installation.
  • The ability to weld, (TIG, MMA) would be beneficial but not essential, as would be the ability to work with and install composite pipework.
  • Candidates must be flexible to undertake tasks across any trade discipline in line with the Flexibility Agreement.
  • Must be prepared to work in a team to provide a high quality service to meet customer expectations and on occasions work overtime and shift patterns within the bounds of the WT D.
