Contractor-Senior Systems Engineer - Naval Combat Systems Integration Support Services (NCSISS) Synthetic Test Environment and Analysis Tools Service (STEATS)

As a contractor within the STEATS team you support the delivery of the synthetic test environment (STE) capabilities in support of the NCSISS contract. You will support, lead (where appropriate) and manage activities working in partnership with the STEATS Technical Lead, Tools Capability lead and Project Manager to ensure a consistent approach to the creation, delivery and support of our products and advice.

Typically you will have responsibility for the technical management of specific, delegated projects relating to STE and as such you are the technical point of contact for our Customers, whether they be DE&S, military or commercial. You will be expected to engage with our Customers to understand their future aspirations with respect to capability, elicit and understand their requirements, and manage the process of analysis and decomposition of the requirements to ensure the resultant product is suitable for integration into the existing Portsdown Technology Park (PTP) STE. You will also provide technical support in terms of the creation of the Technical Delivery Plans supported by Systems Engineers to develop robust technical solutions.

We are looking for a candidate who is willing to work in a team environment, both civilian and military. The location of the role will be predominantly PTP; the ability and willingness to travel to other locations in the UK and abroad to support external supplier testing and trials will also be necessary.

Essential

  • A strong maritime background, preferably with STE experience and a good knowledge of system integration testing processes.
  • Degree level expertise encompassing systems engineering, computer science, physics or similar technical discipline with post degree experience (or equivalent).
  • At least 3 Years of recent experience of delivering multi-disciplinary complex solutions.
  • Full professional membership of a relevant body or similar accreditation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a Systems Engineering principles and lifecycles including requirements, design and testing and obsolescence management.

  • Understanding of the Technical Assurance process and associated reviews.
  • Good communications skills (written, verbal and presentational); able to communicate and IT literate.
  • Able to produce clear, well-structured technical documentation
  • An excellent grasp of the English language including a proven ability to write clear and concise technical specifications.
  • An analytical and logical mind in order to present technical issues in a methodical and understandable manner.

Desirable

  • Software development methods, processes and languages including Java, C#, Python and scripting (Lua, PowerShell)
  • Maritime combat system equipment including sensors, weapons, navigation and command systems
  • Virtualisation technology including virtual machines, containers, shared computing environments and servers (i.e. VMware, ESXi, vCentre and Docker)
  • Requirements Engineering tools including IBM DOORS
  • Application of distributed simulation technologies and standards including DIS, HLA and DDS.
  • Computer network architectures, protocols and analysis including client/server, TCP/IP, UDP, NTP and Wireshark.
