Position - Principal Engineer - Human Factors
Job Description
Delivery of Human Factors input to boat programmes including:
- Spatial, workplace and workspace assessment (understanding of anthropometry)
- Human Computer Interaction (HCI) development and assessment including agile
engineering approaches
- Human Machine Interface (HMI) assessment
- Human Factors Integration Plan (HFIP) and Target Audience Description (TAD)
development
- Provision of Human Factors advice to stakeholders across the range of HF disciplines
Undertake Human Factors work, to support any site based HF safety related activities,
including:
- Write HFIPs (work stream specific)
- Update the HF Issues Registers
- HF attendance / support to Hazard Identification (HAZID)
- HF support to the identification of Human Based safety claims (HBSCs)
- HF input to the Fault Schedule
- HEP calculation sheets in support of the Fault Schedule
- Assess Safety Actions (SAs) - Operator Claims in the safety case
- HF Screening for detailed assessment
- Detailed Detailed Human Error Assessment - DHEA Report
The HFE related roles include the below activities:
- Task Analysis
- Workload Analysis / Assessment of Situation Awareness
- User trials
- Human Computer Interaction (HCI) development and analysis
- Human Reliability Analysis
- Workplace / workspace assessment including anthropometry
- Human Machine Interface Assessment
Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) specialist with the following skills:
- Understanding of Safety Cases Processes (Deterministic Assessment and probabilistic Assessment)
- Understanding of Nuclear Safety Case regulatory framework
- Knowledge of HRA tools
- Task Analysis
- Human Error Qualitative Assessment
- Human Error Quantitative Assessment (HEART and THERP tools)
- Understanding of how to substantiate claims made on the operator within the safety case
- Understanding of how key safety actions are supported by operations (Procedures,
- Training etc)
- Good stakeholder management skills
The Individual
- Human Factors or related degree
- Experience of delivering Human Factors Expertise to large scale projects

- Degree or higher qualified in a human factors or safety related discipline
- Experience of Providing HF advice to a large project
- Knowledge of human factors in nuclear safety cases
- Experience of Hazard ID
- Used to working with Safety Case teams and fault schedules
- Experience of Design Basis Assessment (DBA) and Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) -
- desirable
- Experience in conducting human reliability analyses and Detailed Human Error
- Assessments (DHEA)
- Understanding of nuclear site licensing conditions - SAPs and TAGs
- Skilled communicator
- Diplomatic and good interpersonal skills
