The Job

Brief Description / Purpose of the function:

The CNC Manufacturing / Process Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

Main areas of responsibility are as follows, but are not limited to:

  1. Lead Manufacturing Operators/Technicians in the creation of CNC programs.
  2. Lead training curriculum and team development for the CNC processes.
  3. Plan time studies and standard work design, capacity analysis, facility layout, tooling design, equipment procurement.
  4. Create and maintain manufacturing process documentation (manufacturing instructions, methods and routings) for new and existing products in accordance with relevant engineering drawings and standards.
  5. Conduct engineering investigations supporting rapid problem solving of quality escapes and implementation of corrective actions.
  6. Support New Product Introductions, Product Modification requests in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
  7. Identify manufacturing bottlenecks and quality issues and plan solutions to methods and routes.
  8. Identify and implement cost savings, production and process improvements through a process of continuous improvement based on Lean Manufacturing principles and techniques.
  9. Lead cross-functional teams developing and improving manufacturing process across overall Operations using Lean Enterprise techniques.
  10. Lead manufacturing process and product costings activities.
  11. Actively engage with the New Product Design Team providing manufacturing and technical expertise on project development.
  12. Create and execute continuous improvement projects to improve production processes, equipment, and tooling.
  13. Participate in and lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives with the Machine Shop and overall Operations (e.g Kaizen & 5S Events)
  14. Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing team members, designers, suppliers, tool builders, and associates to support new product launches and to support special and custom product requests.

Safety, health, environment, risk and quality management

  1. Maintain good housekeeping, a healthy and safe work environment and the safe use of equipment and machinery.
  2. Ensure any health and safety concerns and/or issues are communicated/passed to the Health & Safety Manager.

Continuous Improvement

  1. Initiate, participate and implement improvement programs and initiatives using Lean Manufacturing strategies and Built in Quality techniques.

Other

  1. Ensure all work and conduct is in accordance with the Company Handbook and Company Business System.
  2. Carry out any other reasonable request from time to time, as and when required.

Hours

39 per week, Monday to Thursday 07:30am to 16:30, Friday 07:30am to 12:30pm.

The company reserves the right to alter start and finish times, according to the needs of the business.

Qualifications:

  • BSc or HNC in an engineering/technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working within the height safety industry

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years in Manufacturing Engineering role in CNC operations using CAD/CAM tools and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Track record of success operating and troubleshooting CNC equipment and developing manufacturing tooling
  • Capacity Planning and Capital equipment design and procurement
  • Working for an international organisation
  • Working within the height safety industry
  • Time Studies & Activity of the Operator Analysis
  • Built In Quality techniques

Knowledge & Skills

  • An excellent understanding of materials, mechanics and production manufacturing processes, forging, CNC machining, presswork and assembly
  • Highly literate and numerate, able to investigate problems and analyse data
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Extremely organised, ability to prioritise workload
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Lean Manufacturing & Total Quality concepts
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to use Epicor
