JOB PURPOSE: To direct and coordinate the internal structure of the company based on company policies, goals and objectives to ensure an efficient working environment and that deadlines are met consistently.

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Act as functional head of the projects department with overall responsibility for commercial and technical performance, ensuring quality standards and application of established procedures.
  • Day to day management of the project managers, site managers, procurement engineer and oversee the management of the engineering team.
  • Review the contract, tender and specification documentation, to ensure a thorough understanding of the contract requirements.
  • To provide assistance to the proposals department in supporting tender bids in respect to operations.
  • In partnership with the relevant project manager and commercial manager assist in the resolution of any contractual / legal matters or complications and ensure that appropriate action is taken which does not compromise or expose the company to unnecessary risk.
  • In conjunction with the Managing Director approve and implement systems, standards, procedures and methodologies to carry out the range of overall engineering services, to the high standard of performance expected in the organization.
  • Review and assess the integrity, frequency and value of all reporting, establishing revised systems where necessary to ensure that project management have the necessary up to date information to effectively manage the project to meet its objectives, providing any required reporting to senior management.
  • Establish along with relevant project managers, the resourcing requirements for each project, including staffing to ensure that they are accurate and realistic and that any necessary steps needed to supply resource have been arranged with reference to the critical path.
  • Take initiative to identify and deal with problems.
  • To ensure the appropriate distribution of correspondence, circulars, reports etc. as applicable.
  • To evaluate and contribute to project status reports for the management team.
  • Authorisation of overtime and leave for direct reports.
  • To offer, accept and suggest further training requirements relative to the role.
  • To proactively review current market trends in better practices and technology.
  • In conjunction with the Managing Director recruit, motivate and develop staff to ensure the company is staffed with individuals of the required calibre and that adequate succession planning and provision for future demand exists.
  • To assist in the liaison with suppliers, subcontractors and clients as required by the contract.
  • To create and maintain good communication links between all internal resource, clients, and third party suppliers.
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all staff and resources within the post holder's area of responsibility, i.e. delegated responsibility in relation to the nature of the post holder's duties and personal responsibilities as per Section 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and regulation 14 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and reporting systems to ensure that company Environmental, Quality and Health & Safety Policies and Procedures, are consistently implemented across each project, taking effective remedial action where non-compliance is identified.
  • To maintain good communication links between all members of the business, outside organisations, and suppliers.
  • To co-operate and carry out any other reasonable and lawful request/instruction by the Managing Director, in line with their training, expertise, know-how, capability and H&S as implied duties through employer and employee relations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree/HND preferred
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Good IT Skills
  • Experience in a similar position
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Direct Water Industry background
  • Full UK driving license
  • NEBOSH certified
  • Flexibility to work and stay out overnight anywhere in the UK
