The Software Engineer participates in the development, introduction and delivery of control centre software into the UK market. This portfolio currently includes Modular Control System, Delphin, Sapphire and Automated Route Setting (MARS) along with their associated processes and tools. The role the design, implementation, testing and support of software.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Lead the development and / or improvement of control systems software within the business including requirements capture, planning, specifications, design, implementation, testing and roll out. Assist in ensuring that the software remains fit for purpose and enable continuous improvement by proactively suggesting and implementing improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead software project teams
- Participate in the production of software specifications, liaising with the Customer as necessary
- Participate in the design, coding and module testing of software
- Participate in peer reviews on software specifications, designs and source code.
- Support the installation and commissioning of software
- Provide support to customers of software
- Assist with sales proposals for software projects
- Supervise and/or Liaise with Contractors, Technicians and System Testers
- Ensure all the above are performed in compliance with prevailing standards and procedures for quality and configuration management
- Support submissions to Safety Cases
- Conduct Design Reviews
- To comply with Corporate & Environment, Health & Safety requirements at all times

- Number of delivery activities delivered on time and to budget
- Number of development activities delivered on time and to budget
- Number of in service defects closed out on time
- Product availability (as measured by component obsolescence)
- Number of business and technical briefings attended
Requirements
Essential:
Skills:
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good presentation skills
- Ability to prepare outline business cases
- Ability to introduce new tools and processes
Qualifications:
- HNC, Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
Experience:
- Experience in Real-Time software development
- Able to demonstrate a vast competence in WPF over the last 5 years.
- Able to demonstrate experience in C#.NET over the last 5 years.
- Interfacing with SQL Server Databases
- Familiar with Windows desktop kiosk style applications
- Systems software development and integration

Qualifications:
- HNC, Degree or equivalent in an computer science discipline
Experience:
- Working knowledge of signalling systems (MCS, VHLC \ ElectroLogIXS, SMARTLOCK)
- Experience using Prism
