Our client, a leading supplier of products and services to the Aerospace sector, are currently looking for a Graduate Engineer to join their Maintenance Department with a focus on utilities out of their site in Hamble near Southampton.

The Job

Role Summary

Reports directly to Senior Facility Engineering Manager and working within the Maintenance Department to manage utilities reduction and Maintenance based projects with key focus on utilities (Gas, Electric, & Water) expenditure, by identifying opportunities that will enable a reduction in utility usage (c.17m kWh pa.) across the business. Identifies wasteful activities, develops plans, and drives proactive improvements through culture, policy, and procedural changes. Ensuring Health, Safety, and Environmental responsibilities are always adhered to, and a quality, cost-effective service is provided to the business. Role will have assigned responsibilities in line with responsibilities matrix.

Role Specific

  • Develops and implements phased management plan to reduce utility usage across the site.
  • Publish site utilities and P&E policies and procedures, guaranteeing efficient utilities usage.
  • Develops & coordinates specific plans for the successful delivery of allocated projects.
  • Installs an efficient and environmentally friendly utility and asset management culture.
  • Conducts monthly monitoring, analysis, and reporting of utility usage and cost.
  • Establishes and coordinates activities of the cross functional 'Utilities Management Team'.
  • Act as conduit between functions to ensure efficient use of utilities and business assets.
  • Identify, plan, and replace high utility usage equipment with more efficient alternatives.
  • Establishes and coordinates activities of cross functional 'Utilities Management Team'.
  • Conducts regular site reviews 'treasure hunts' to identify and mitigate excessive utility usage.
  • Identify, plan, and replace high utility usage equipment with more efficient alternatives.
  • Establishes physical means to improve P&E utilisation, aimed at reducing utility waste.
  • Ensures all works are planned and delivered safely & securely in line with Company procedures.
  • Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Recommends, conducts, trains and educates individuals in the economical use of utilities.
  • Conduct monthly monitoring, analysis, and reporting of utility usage and cost.
  • Publishes regular newsletters, and guidance on the economical use of utilities.
  • Leads 'Utilities Reduction' Projects and be main point of contact for utility contracts.
  • Update CAD models and develops plan for the management of site drawings, layouts, and plans.
  • Consolidate and communicate status of departmental activities on a daily / weekly basis.
  • Shall be nominated owner in line with the responsibility's matrix (maintained by Senior Facilities Engineering Manager). Required to deputise as nominated owner during absences as assigned within the responsibility's matrix.
  • Any other reasonable duties that fall in line with the level of the role.


Measure of Success

  • Utility usage Key Performance Indicator's (KPI's) published monthly.
  • Assigned projects delivered on time to budget.
  • Annual reduction in utilises usage.


Qualifications

  • Graduate with suitable Degree from an accredited university, college, or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Excel.

  • Able to perform effectively under pressure, and influence within a matrix organization.
  • Strong organisational, planning and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be a completer/finisher able to communicate at all levels
  • Previous experience reducing utilities usage, or cost.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

This role will be an initial 2-year fixed term contract but likely to lead to a longer-term permanent position for the right person. This role will be based on-site, Monday to Friday lunchtime.
