The Job

Definition

As a Systems Engineer, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplined team to achieve project objectives. The purpose of the role is to provide embedded software, PC application software and IP network design for Nuclear and High Temperature product.

Purpose of the Role

In this key position within our company, you will work closely with our Project Managers and Design Engineers to guide the project teams to deliver in accordance with the project specification. In addition, you will be a point of contact for Sales and Services to act as a technical customer interface. You will assist in scoping out design solutions as per customer requirements and preparing costs to respond to sales enquiries, as well as problem solving systems installed in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • System design life cycle including concept, detailed design, production and assembly support, testing, installation, commissioning and upgrading or system replacement
  • Software development, integration of hardware and software, with other Design specialities such as electronic and mechanical design

* Develop and maintain embedded firmware, PC software

  • Configuration of cameras, Win7 onwards computers, including secure computing configuration and computer application installation and configuration

* IP network configuration and security

* Creating systems wiring and termination diagrams

* Design for manufacture ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards

* Assess design compliance and prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification

  • Generating reports, heat load calculations, test specifications and verification procedures, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes)

* Technical writing of operator manuals, installation manuals, help files for both hardware and software

* Creating FAT, WAT, SAT documentation and preforming associated acceptance tests

* Creating reliability data for systems and components

* Participation in Design reviews with internal and external customers

* Providing peer checks within the design release process

Other Responsibilities

* Preparing cost sheets (material and labour costs) and technical commentary for Sales Enquires

  • Incorporating Component Change Requests, Design Change Requests and performing robust Root Cause Analysis and Lessons Learned
  • Liaison with subcontract manufacturers and Quality Assurance providers for design support or certification and qualification purposes
  • Providing technical support for internal customers, such as procurement, production, and test departments
  • Providing office and site based technical support for Sales and the Service team relating to product applications, customer enquiries and fault diagnosis

* Support staff training to ensure there is no single point failures

  • Participation in continuous improvement initiatives as necessary

Qualifications and Experience Essential

* 5 years + experience

* Ideally qualified to a minimum degree level in relevant field (or equivalent experience)

* Experience of programming using Assembly language, C / C++ and Visual basic .net

* Experience of real time control including motor control and thermal control algorithms

  • Experience of installation, configuration and operation of video management systems Milestone, Bosch, Indigo Vision

* Good and demonstrable knowledge of EMC Compliance and safety

* Excellent communication skills, time management and organisational skills

Desirable

* Understanding of cameras, optics, lenses, light wavelengths, and thermal radiation

* Understanding of nuclear fission radiation types, units, and effects on materials/electronic components

* Experience of preparing cost sheets for Sales Enquires

* Experience in Nuclear and High temperature applications

* Membership of an Engineering institute

* Experience of Digital and analogue electronics and FPGA design

* Experience of using of VHDL and Xilinx

* FPGA test bench generation and simulation

* SC Clearance

* Ability to be an occasional Radiological worker

* ECITB site passport
