We have a fantastic opportunity for a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Lead based within our Major Air Programmes (MAP) Line of Business (LoB). This exciting role will define and drive MBSE capability within MAP across multiple engineering teams and products. You will be responsible for liaising closely with Product Owners and the MBSE Lead for the UK whilst defining and promoting MBSE best practice. You will work on, and influence, a wide variety of major projects, programs and transformation initiatives covering key engineering capabilities across the engineering lifecycle.

Reporting into the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) within MAP you will liaise with multiple sponsors, stakeholders and champions for MBSE. The supporting teams for this role are highly motivated in their pursuits of continuous improvement to Engineering methods and technologies. These technologies are typically world firsts and innovative in their definition, which you will contribute to and influence.
As MBSE Lead for MAP, you will lead Leonardo's input into cross-industry MBSE forums, working collaboratively with Leonardo's partners and promoting MBSE capability. This provides a great deal of exposure across the industry, including technical work on the latest complex projects. All of these activities could influence the transformation in the UK's Defence industry approach to engineering solutions.
There will be a combination of onsite and home working, and UK travel, however this can be flexible based on your needs. The actual location for this role can be any of our UK sites.

What you will do?

• Liaise with key sponsors and stakeholders to frequently review and update the MBSE strategy, MBSE process and any associated workflows.
• Liaise with the MBSE lead for the UK and MBSE champions to coach the MAP engineering teams on the application of MBSE with a focus on:
  • Operational Analysis
  • Concept development
  • Product implementation
  • Digital validation and verification
• Understand methods, approaches, tools and repository designs to make MBSE guidance accessible and digestible for engineers.
• Utilise expertise at both a strategic and tactical level, building consensus that ensures alignment in engineering approaches to promote best practice, commonality and re-use.
• Work with a rapidly evolving business, proactive in identifying and exploiting improvements for future needs.
• Represent MAP / Leonardo for MBSE activities at a portfolio level for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme
• Lead the development of the Leonardo UK FCAS MBSE transformation vision and strategy
• Engage with the FCAS Digital Engineering Service Product Owner to ensure alignment between external (FCAS Enterprise) facing and internal (Company) facing members of the Leonardo UK MBSE team

What we are looking for?

• Ability to communicate intent & practical application of MBSE architectural design approaches for the development of complex systems.
• Experience of using/applying system architecture modelling frameworks & languages.
• Experience of elaborating abstract concepts in an MBSE environment.
• Ability to breakdown conceptual models into individual sub-system & component models.

It would be nice if you had:

• Recent delivery experience on a project that implements MBSE.
• Appropriate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
• Knowledge/experience of:
  • MOOD, Cameo System Modeler, Rhapsody, MATLAB.
  • The full Systems Engineering Lifecycle.
  • ISO15288-2015 Technical Processes.
• Understanding of performance and operational capabilities for airborne sensor systems.
