My Client is recruiting for a Design Manager in the Water Sector

Location: Reading - The Client is adopter of hybrid working and the role location is flexible .They are committed to providing a flexible and agile working environment that supports both employees and the needs of the business. ​

My Client is looking for an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team in the Water Sector.  Working collaboratively with the Commercial Manager and Operations Manager, your role will be to lead and develop your design team, to successfully deliver framework outcomes.

Attributes:

  • You will lead and grow your own design team, within a dynamic, fully integrated design & build company, working for the largest UK water company.  
  • You will drive the delivery of a large, diverse, and secured programme of projects that include water, wastewater, infrastructure and non-infrastructure.
  • You will be key to developing and implementing new ways of working which reduce carbon, increase biodiversity and embrace innovations and new digital technologies
  • As part of our Senior Leadership Team within the Framework, you will develop strong and productive relationships with the Water team, to ensure our delivery meets the Client needs to deliver for their customers and the environment
  • You will be a key part of setting the culture within the Framework team in terms of keeping everyone safe, looking after our people, focusing on our client and having fun. This will include the new challenge of how to embrace the benefits of hybrid working.


Duties/Responsibilities:

People:

  • Build and develop a design team, including assessing competency gaps and undertaking recruitment and resource management.
  • Create a working environment, where everyone is respected and heard, and treated equally.
  • Provide clear, consistent, and visible leadership to your design team.
  • Undertake line management and staff welfare, including supporting staff training and development, to help everyone reach their potential.
  • Positively engage with the Client, as well as the wider water and engineering sector, to develop relationships and influence.

Excellence:

  • Contribute to achieving high Framework KPI scores. 
  • Engage, support and contribute to the wider Company design community and business.
  • Engage with and develop relationships with the wider Group to help enhance our performance.
  • Lead the development of initiatives around innovation, excellence and digital.


Delivery:

  • Lead the delivery and assurance that the company is meeting its obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (2015) for its roles as the Principal Designer and Designer on the Framework
  • Lead the development of project scope and target costs, including understanding risks and opportunities.    
  • Lead the delivery of multi-disciplinary design programmes, comprising water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure.
  • Apply strong technical skills and be able to manage design risk and impacts, as well as being able to identify and allocate resources appropriately to address competency and complexity.   

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering or science subject. 
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).
  • Experience of designing water, or wastewater, non-infrastructure and infrastructure, from solution to detailed design.
  • An experienced manager of people and teams, developing others, and managing staff welfare.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and influencing collaborative team culture and behaviours, as well as working effectively within a multidiscipline and diverse team.
  • Strong commercial performance and an understanding of procurement and contract management.
  • Proven record in delivering design projects to programme, budget and quality requirements, and managing competing tensions within a design & build environment, for the benefit of developing better outcomes.
  • Proactive and positive approach with a growth mindset, with an ability to adapt and lead your team within changing environments, to achieve both creativity and proficiency. 
  • Proven ability to manage designer's responsibilities under CDM.
