JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Electronics/Firmware (FPGA) Engineer
Specialisation FPGA
Department: R&D
Location: Hybrid/remote working available, ideally with monthly visit to Salisbury office.
Reporting to: Head of Electronics Development
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week.
The Role

As part of the R&D design team your role is to work on the electronics and FPGA firmware design of new products. As a well-rounded engineer you will bring experience in multiple domains to the design team. With an electronics background and proven FPGA design experience you will work in a multi-disciplinary team from the concept through to manufacture stages of the design process.

The electronics aspects you will work on will cover architecture, schematic and PCB design. On products that use FPGA technology you will own the architectural design and all aspects of implementation, prototype test and validation.

Depending on your engineering background and project demands there may also be scope for working on DSP software or embedded software running on both bare metal and embedded Linux.

Working alongside the other electronics engineers and the embedded software team you will be collectively responsible for ensuring the audio performance of future products matches and exceeds the high standards demanded by our customers. A background in audio, video or broadcast is highly desirable and personal interest in audio is a must.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Electronics Design:
    • Digital circuit design including components such as Microprocessors, DSP, FPGA, DAC/ADC.
    • High Speed Digital Design.
    • Prototyping and bench testing PCBs and circuits.
    • Electronics design peer reviews.
    • Electronics architecture reviews.
    • Design feasibility evaluation.
  • FPGA Design:
    • Design implementation and simulation.
    • Prototype bring up and debugging
    • Use best practice for source code control, build, test and distribution.
  • ECAD Design:
    • Schematic Design and PCB layout.
    • System Integration.
Skills & Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or similar discipline.
  • History of working in a commercial environment designing complex electronics products.
  • Able to demonstrate depth of knowledge in multiple technical areas related to digital systems design such as digital audio systems, high speed circuit design, FPGA or RF design.
  • Lab skills such as debugging prototypes in collaboration with firmware engineers and using test equipment such as modern oscilloscopes and logic analysers.
  • Experienced ECAD user, preferably Pads Pro.
  • Knowledge of and ability to design to global safety and EMC standards.
  • Familiarity with modern collaborative development tools and techniques such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Experience in the audio industry would be beneficial where critical listening was part of the design process.
