Job description
This is an opportunity for a Geoscience Technician to work within a dedicated geoscience team involved with low carbon solutions projects and upstream exploration projects. Candidates must have demonstrable experience of using ArcGIS.
The primary function of the Geoscience Technician is to provide geoscience data integrity (data QC) and technical data support to Geoscientists. The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of geoscience data including data elements, relationships, and usage in order to identify data problems and loading errors. Plus, you should have good knowledge of geodetics and coordinate reference systems. You should have working knowledge of the various digital and hardcopy data repositories. Candidates must be proficient in ArcGIS and ideally have work experience with Petrel, plus scripting language Python (or Perl or SQL) will be helpful.
Tasks and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Obtain, process, manage and maintain geophysical spatial data (cartography and culture data) using ArcGIS and Petrel.
- Interpret data from seismic surveys.
- Generate geoscience maps, presentation packages, montages, logs etc.
- Create, digitize, edit, add attributes, import and export GIS data.
- Generate derivative products and first-pass interpretation support for Geoscientists.
- Maintain data standards and models.
- Gather, transfer and load data into project data stores and shared projects.
- Import and export spatial, well, and log data from 3rd party and vendor datasets.
- Convert, transform, reposition and reformat geoscience data.
Candidates should be degree qualified e.g. BSc in relevant Geoscience / Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or experience in Exploration, Development & Production environment.
This role is Inside IR35. The rates quoted are PAYE rates. Candidates could also work on an Umbrella basis if they so wish.
