Client Summary
We are focused on accelerating the energy transition through a series of novel technologies. Our Smart Transformer, provides improved grid management capability and efficiency by combining electromagnetic design, power electronics, data capture, advanced processing and machine learning. This enables distribution networks to manage power flow and maximise the penetration of distributed renewable energy, electric vehicles and other emerging technologies.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Power Electronics Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team, who are working at the cutting edge of transformer design and leading game-changing technology development.
You will have exciting opportunities in new product development from concept generation to detailed design and prototype build, through to deployment on grid and series production. You will also contribute on technical problem solving and continuous product improvement. You will work as part of focused team, often operating with significant autonomy whilst guided by established policies, towards successful outcomes.
The successful candidate will ideally have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or similar and ideally have 5 years' experience.
The role:
Responsible for the delivery of all technical aspects relating to Power Electronics; design, review, test.
Collaboration with power electronics OEM in the development of new IGBT based inverters for solar, battery and smart grid products.
Evaluation of market options for suppliers for supply of IGBT, SiC MOSFET based converters.
Create detailed requirements specifications and evaluate of potential technical solutions. Develop design solutions and liaise with suppliers.
Front end engineering design, scoping and specification of power electronics solutions for our power system products.
Design of electrical circuit and electro-mechanical systems design principles to develop power conversion circuits - rectifiers/inverters, power supplies, magnetic and filter design for future products.
Develop test protocols for the validation of components/equipment.
Application of simulation tools for the design and troubleshooting of complex power electronics systems - circuit simulation.
Contribute to innovation and technical strategy to maintain competitiveness.
Application of technical experience and analytical thinking to solve complex technical issues.
What we are looking for:
A collaborative, constructive and team goal focused contributor, able to work with cross discipline teams.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Degree in Electrical or Electronics engineering with passion for in Power Electronics and ideally 5 years' experience in industry.
Passion and interest in emerging technologies around power electronics and their use.
Ability to analyse complex engineering problems, from both technical and commercial viewpoints, to identify and deliver pragmatic solutions.
Proven track record of design, specification and procurement of rectifier and inverter solutions for electrical power systems applications.
Experience of integration with controls technologies using CAN, time based ethernet etc.
Familiarity with appropriate engineering tools such as Psim, Simplorer, Matlab, Simulink, and PLECS etc.
Ability to work using own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of your discipline.
Familiarity with Industry Standards
Proficient user of MS Office systems.
Desirable: Ability to use CAD software
Desirable: Knowledge of embedded systems programming for inverters.
Flexible approach and ability to travel when required.
