Job description

The PLC Engineer will be responsible for providing support to existing systems and new projects

Responsibilities

  • The role will include program amendments and programming, fault finding, testing and commissioning and management of site-wide PLC systems.
  • Programming of SCADA and HMI systems amendments to the program graphics and program management using the site change management and business systems.
  • The PLC Engineer will also be involved in CI activities.
  • To ensure all work is carried out following the business processes, to the highest standards of Health and Safety.
  • To ensure that safety, quality and cost is designed into our processes and be responsible for monitoring these systems.
  • Liaise with the energetic materials and process Engineering capability so that production issues are investigated thoroughly whilst coordinating activities to ensure prompt responses.
  • To monitor production processes and lead activities in the improvement of these on Engineering projects within the relevant field of expertise ensuring that project plans are robust and be responsible for their delivery.
  • Develop cases for technical projects for funding considerations through various channels including MoD and internal funding.
  • Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with other functions at Glascoed.

Your competencies, skills and qualifications

  • Degree or BTEC (HND/HNC) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar subject.
  • Knowledge of SIL (BSEN 61508 and 61511).
  • Knowledge of ATEX equipment and zoning.
  • Awareness of CompEx rules.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge with PLC systems.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge with HMI systems.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge with SCADA systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge in manufacturing (preferably with energetic materials).
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Due to the nature of the team's work the candidate must be enthusiastic, possessing excellent communication skills and be able to work under their own initiative.
  • You should be able to demonstrate that you are a team player, committed to continual improvement whilst also showing a willingness to learn quickly.
  • Any successful candidate would also need to have strong motivational and interpersonal attributes.

The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.

SC Only No ITAR (start on BPSS) - This role will require you to hold or be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC). You will need to obtain a BPSS check as part of this process. You must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship and have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum 5 year period.
