Job description

Leonardo is a global high-tech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence and Security. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infrared countermeasure systems.

This Systems Engineering role presents an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop and grow into a pivotal post at Leonardo, supporting the development of the Captor-E ECRS Mk0 Radar.

Experience in all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle is desirable.

This is a hands-on role, primarily based within a lab environment, supporting the development, integration, testing, evaluation, and sell-off activities required for the Captor-E ECRS Mk0 Radar System. This will include formal testing, test data analysis and capturing of System level Qualification and Verification test evidence.

Problem solving and fault diagnosis under sometimes challenging circumstances is a critical part of the role

The job currently requires shift working on a four-on / four-off day pattern. Note that this is at Project discretion and is not guaranteed long-term.

What will you do?

  • Support the Rooflab Integration Lead to undertake tasks as part of a wider programme to integrate new functionality into the existing CAPTOR-E ECRS Mk0 Radar System.
  • Interact with a range or technical & non-technical project stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
  • Actively support knowledge sharing and exploitation of best practices.
  • Closely work with other engineers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds in the resolution of complex problems.
  • Maintenance of the prime Radar system and supporting test equipment within a lab based environment.
  • This role is predominantly office based but occasional UK/Europe travel may be required to support the programme
  • Occasional support to ground and/or flight trials will be required off-site.
  • This is a hands on role, where you will be expected to undertake active participation in integration and testing of in service Radar Systems including a mixture of informal / ad hoc testing and detailed / formal test procedures.

What are we ideally looking for?

  • Experience of the Systems Engineering life cycle from development and management of requirements (preferably using DOORS) through to acceptance testing.
  • A solid understanding of the MS Office suite.
  • A high degree of interpersonal skill with the ability to present reasoned arguments in a robust and professional manner.
  • The ability to effectively manage own time, potentially across multiple activities.
  • Technical aptitude and willingness to learn about legacy systems.
  • The ability to address the challenges of introducing new technologies into pre-existing equipment.
  • We are particularly interested in speaking to you if you have experience/knowledge in any of the following areas:
  • Radar RF electronic technology, performance and operational concepts.
  • Familiarity of a broad range of test and measurement, including Bus Analysers, Spectrum Analysers, RF Power Meters, Vector Network Analysers and Oscilloscopes.
  • Manual handling of Radar and Test equipment is associated with this role.
  • MATLAB for modelling and data analysis is desirable.
  • Python programming is desirable.
  • Configuration management and control.
