What you will do

Within the software engineering community at Leonardo Edinburgh, our mission is simple: "Deliver new features and enhancements quickly and continuously to keep our operators safe."

That means we need to develop features, gather data, diagnose problems and deploy updates as quickly as possible. As a Software Engineer, you'll understand the value you deliver to our customers and how important that is to mission success.

Due to the nature of the work we do, remote working and working from home is generally not possible for these roles. If you've previously felt isolated by working remotely, and want to be part of a business where you can thrive in an office-based environment, working alongside some of the best engineers in our company, these are ideal roles.

Depending on your level of expertise, you'll mentor, coach and teach other software engineers, and actively contribute to sharing knowledge and developing others.

We recognise that the "perfect candidate" doesn't exist, so the main requirement for the position is a strong software engineering skillset. You don't need to have experience in embedded, avionics or defence software development; we want to hear from skilled engineers and technical experts from all industries.

Progression
This is a great opportunity to bring your talents and form an integral part of Leonardo's future. We can help you develop your skills and offer great opportunities to develop and grow, so why not join us.

What we are looking for

You will have experience of some of the following:

  • Full software lifecycle including: Requirements Management, Design, Implementation, Test and Integration
  • UML and C++
  • OOD (Object Oriented Design) techniques
  • Working and delivering software using agile techniques such as Scrum, and tooling such as Jira / Confluence / Bitbucket / GItlab

Demonstrable experience in the following areas/tools will help you stand out:

  • Development of embedded software, including RTOSs such as VxWorks or embedded Linux, and deployment of software to multi-core or distributed hardware platforms
  • Working alongside firmware and hardware engineers to develop working embedded solutions
  • A solid grasp of programming and scripting languages other than C++
  • Knowledge of standards such as RTCA 178C and coding standards such as MISRA C/C++
  • Matlab Simulink, Rhapsody, DOORS, Dimensions or similar tools
