Job description

Principal Product Support Engineer
Salary: £43K per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours: 9:30am to 4:30pm normal working week will be 40 hours - 5-day week.
Location: Cambridge

Our client is a growing business. They design, manufacture, and sell sensors and instruments for environmental monitoring and plant science. They have a broad spectrum of environmental monitoring applications. These are complemented by a range of meteorological sensors, hand-held instruments and image analysis products for niche applications in plant science.

We are proud of the part that our products play in monitoring climate change and
management of water resources. We are respected for our scientific integrity and the quality of the support that we provide to our customers.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Department Manager, you will be part of a Product Support
team consisting of one other full time Product Support Engineer, plus 3 part time engineers.

Main duties

  • Provide a Product Support service to Manufacturing. This involves fault finding and
  • resolving electronic product faults, finding alternative electronic parts and repairing failed products.
  • Fault-find & carry out repairs.
  • Introduce improvements to products.
  • Assist New Product Introduction into Manufacture
  • Introduce improvements to product quality.
  • Solve customer Technical Support problems.
  • Work on product support projects.
  • Assist with new product prototyping, test & introduction to Manufacture.


Qualifications and experience
Ideally you should have:

  • At least 4 years proven technical problem-solving experience with electronic products
  • and their manufacture.
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering and experienced with PCB layout, schematic.
  • capture, testing, and debugging.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, sensors, and measurement technology
  • Experience with instrumentation, and basic understanding of mechanical
  • engineering, including CAD Drawing systems.

Additional qualities which we will be looking for in a Product Support Engineer are:

  • Passion for providing a high level of support to both Manufacturing and our customers.
  • Flexibility. Willing to turn a hand to repairs, production support and test. equipment development. Problem solving.
  • An understanding of products sufficient to enable the repair of problem products.
  • Self-motivated and good at organising own workload.
  • Excellent teamwork.
  • Good manual skills.
  • Effective communication with a wide range of people
  • Sympathetic to Delta-T co-operative organizational structure.

Paid holiday

  • Per calendar year, including bank holidays:
  • 1st Year: 33 days (or pro-rata)
  • After 5 years - increase by 2 days.
  • After 10 years - increase by a further 3 days.

Sick pay

  • Up to 3 months sick leave may be claimed on full pay, followed by 13 weeks sick pay at 75% of previous year's earnings.
  • Sick pay insurance should come into effect after 26 weeks continuous sickness and pay out at 75% of previous year's earnings.

Life insurance

  • 4 x salary (previous year basis)

Pension scheme

  • operates a Group Personal Pension scheme, which you may
  • join on satisfactory completion of probation period (see below).
  • will pay 7% of your earnings (on a previous year basis) into the scheme, you must also make regular personal contributions of a minimum of 2%.
