Job description
Our client is looking for a Senior Java Engineer to work on various software solutions that are maintained for their key clients.
Our client helps to improve people's lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK's energy, water and transportation infrastructures.
Dynamic and flexible working (including part-time/compressed hours etc) is available depending on individual/business/client needs. You will be issued with a homebased contract, but occasional travel (with advanced notice) may be required for in-person meetings/workshops. The "home" office for this role will be our clients technology capability hub in Worle (near Bristol) however you can work from any of their other office locations throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility and ownership of existing products and systems
- Work collaboratively in a cross functional team to deliver client outcomes
- Work closely with the Service Manager and the Service Operations team to maintain live services, contribute towards growth of the contracts and ensure service requests are handled within the SLAs defined in the maintenance contracts
- Provide estimates for new work/variation
- Technically lead, support and mentor less experienced members of the team
- Advocate continuous improvement through effective retrospectives, recommendations and driving change
Essential Skills
- Java (7+)
- Enterprise Java Beans
- SQL (PostgreSQL)
- Hibernate ORM
- SNMP3
- JavaScript (JQuery, Leaflet for Mapping)
- Media streaming (WebRTC, Wowza, Ant Media)
- Experience of the full software development lifecycle
- Experience of source version control ideally Git
- Build, CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, Maven)
- Task Management tool (e.g. Jira)
- Understanding of cyber security
Desirable Technical Skills
- CORBA
- Spring Framework (e.g. Spring Boot and plugins)
- Web app development framework (e.g. Angular)
- Understanding of networking
- ITIL Foundation Certificate
