Job description
Folkestone & Hythe is a dynamic and innovative place to live, work and visit.
Recognised by Best Companies as an outstanding organisation to work for, we have a real focus on health & wellbeing and staff development, and offer an excellent benefits package that includes corporate membership and reward schemes, Employee Assistance Programme and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Our offices are based in the heart of Folkestone, with easy access to transport links, local shops, entertainment facilities and the seafront. In addition, we have an agile working culture that supports and encourages flexible and remote/home working.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced surveyor to help develop our small but dedicated Building Control team and make a real difference to our district, community and the lives of our residents.
You will use your specialist knowledge to ensure compliance with Building Regulations throughout our district, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency, and enhancing the safety and accessibility of our built environment. Our coastal district has a widespread and varied geography that includes the Dungeness peninsula, towns and village of the Romney Marsh and part of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
The geology on which it sits is equally varied and challenging and our developing coastal attractions within the Folkestone Harbour zone and beyond make it a uniquely interesting and rewarding place to work in Building Control.
You will need to have extensive post qualification experience in Building Control and have a sound knowledge of the Building Regulations, Building Act and associated codes of practice, standards and legislation. You will also need to be a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator at General Surveyor (Level 5), or have the ability to achieve this standard prior to the mandatory introduction date. We appreciate this is a time of change within the Building Control sector and we are committed to your professional development. If you are not yet qualified we will support you throughout the process. We'll even reward you with a one off payment of £5,000 when you qualify.
We understand that this may present a promotion opportunity for you, or you may currently be working in a different sector, and we welcome applications from those who may not meet all our essential criteria as a result. If you're a team player that's excited by a challenge and as ambitious as we are, then we would love to hear from you.
Total salary package of up to c. £59,000 per annum (potential for negotiation with exceptional candidates) includes:
- Salary Grade H: £46,345 - £51,815
- Plus Car Allowance: £3,900
- Plus Market Supplement: up to £3,418
