Job description

Quality Assurance Engineer (Contracts)
Department: Quality Assurance
Responsible to: Quality Assurance Team Leader
Status: Full Time - Permanent
Normal Hours of Work: 37 hours per week
Location: Poole, UK. Office based.

Job Summary
The Quality Assurance Engineer (Contracts) supports the Quality Assurance team to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with legislation, standards, and customer specifications.
The Quality Assurance Engineer (Contracts) will support key projects in working to reduce COPQ across the business. They will also investigate and identify the root cause of quality problems, managing high value customer documentation packs and supports the QA team in the upkeep and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
Responsibilities
Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Support the QA Team with continuous improvement activities to reduce cost of poor quality.
  • Be involved and sometimes lead investigations into shop floor raised issues. Ensure a clear root cause has been identified and effective corrective actions implemented using effective problem-solving tools such as, 8D, DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5Why's etc.
  • Create and manage high value customer documentation packs and ensure successful sign-off by customer.
  • Review potential bids for manufacturing capability for nuclear, aerospace, hazardous area equipment and any other quality related requirements specified by legislation and/or the customer.
  • Ensure actions required to ensure compliance to quality related legislative and customer requirements are taken and managed to completion.
  • Prepare, review and approve final product certification documentation, material certification checks, traveller sign-off as required.
  • Support the Quality department in the on-going upkeep and maintenance of the IMS (Integrated Management System to ensure the Company maintains compliance to ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 and other subscribed requirements.
  • Increase IMS awareness across site at all levels.
  • Conduct internal audits in accordance with the internal audit plan. This includes creating audit reports, raising corrective action reports for any non-conformities and following actions to verification and closure.
  • Support the Quality Assurance (QA) team during customer and regulatory audits/ assessments in all aspects of the IMS.
  • Support the supplier audit plan by conducting supplier audits as required.
  • Support the QA team in raising and completing Corrective Action Reports (CARs) for both internal and external issues.
  • Supporting the QA team in raising change notes if required.
  • Provide support to Customer Services regarding customer complaints and raising CARs as required.
  • Perform other such duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as may be reasonably required.


The Person
Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience in a Quality Assurance related role within a highly regulated manufacturing organization (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, medical etc).
  • Experience in conducting internal audits.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business and working directly with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in working with problem solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, Ishikawa, 5Why's etc.
  • Experience in working with APQP related elements such as PPAP, Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Manages own time and deliverables effectively.


Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge and experience of ISO14001, ISO45001, ASME 'N' & 'NPT', PED, ATEX and Functional Safety.
  • ISO9001 Lead Assessor qualification.
  • A mechanical engineering background.
  • Experience in conducting supplier audits.
  • Knowledge of NDE testing - formal training may be provided if not qualified.
  • NDE / PCN Level 2 Qualified
  • Good general understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental Legislation.
