The Role


Air Sector is engaged in a critical role on the Dreadnought programme to develop the functional design of the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS) employing Model Based Systems Engineering techniques at scale on what is a safety critical system. The AVC Team at Warton has a vacancy for a Senior Systems Engineer within the Flight Systems discipline. The successful candidate will join the Planning Assist and Monitoring team (PAM), working as part of the AVC Functional Development organisation.

The successful candidate will be expected to have experience across the Engineering Lifecycle with extensive knowledge of Flight Systems and related domain knowledge desirable, including an appreciation of software development and modelling & simulation. Additionally, the candidate should have an openness to learning new skills, concepts and approaches to developing MBSE products and have excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities
As a Senior Systems Engineer within the PAM Team you will define, specify and model Dreadnought AVCS functions which plan submarine control demands (pitch, ballasting, deballasting or trimming requirements) when the submarine is maintaining or changing depth/heading, and functions which derive information to support these planning functions.

You will also maintain a close working relationship with Subject Matter Experts and with other Dreadnought teams including the Safety, Plant Modelling and Display Development teams. This is a flexible and varied role in which you will develop considerable full lifecycle systems engineering experience, as well as gaining comprehensive insight into the interesting realm of submarine operations and submarine dynamics.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

* Identification of AVC Planning Assist and Monitoring software needs
* Developing, modelling and testing functionality
* Develop system requirements and high level software requirements
* Liaising with stakeholders and with other Dreadnought teams
* Producing system testing and qualification documentation
* Contributing to the onward development of model-based systems engineering

The Individual
* Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent experience in relevant areas * Technical proficiency in modelling and simulation based on MATLAB and SIMULINK
* Understanding of system testing and qualification processes (previous experience would be beneficial)
* Technical proficiency in control engineering would be beneficial but not required
