Job description
Would you like to play a part in the development of advanced combat aircraft products and technologies, developing your design skills and capabilities whilst working in an agile and collaborative business environment? We currently have vacancies for Airframe Design Engineers at our UK sites. As an Airframe Design Engineer, you will be part of a team producing the airframe product definition to satisfy a set of multidisciplinary system functional requirements, taking account of safety, cost, manufacturing, in-service support and other considerations. You will develop skills within Concept & Configuration Design, Structural Design (Metallic & Composite), Mechanical Systems Design, Fluid Systems Design, Electrical Circuits and Electrical Installation Design, Build & In-Service Design Support.

Typically your design capabilities will be developed in at least one of the following skill areas: Concept & Configuration Design, Structural Design (Metallic & Composite), Mechanical Systems Design, Fluid Systems Design, Electrical Circuits Design, Electrical Installation Design, Build & In-Service Design Support.
Your main responsibilities as an Airframe Design Engineer will involve:
Assisting in the initial preliminary 'Structural Layout' of FCAS WP 1 Core Platform during the concept development phase and A Scheming.
Producing and issuing Airframe engineering design data to meet project requirements in line with design standards, whilst maintaining quality, cost and schedule adherence
Undertaking formal independent quality engineering checks of others design data, to ensure compliance with project standards
Liaising with other engineering and project areas in a collaborative environment in developing design solutions
Identifying product technical risks and associated mitigation plans
Evaluating and resolving design problems and supporting the generation of resulting modifications and changes
Adhering to all relevant project standards and procedures
Responsible for small number of direct reports, requiring day to day tasking, mentoring and development.

You will have good communication skills with an ability to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be proactive with an ability to think creatively, to use initiative and act independently, as required.
Essential:
HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
Experience of Design within industry and/or within course in which you gained a suitable academic qualification
Experience using 3D CAD.
Desirable:
Background in Aeronautical Engineering and an understanding of the main phases of an airframe design product lifecycle
Experience using CATIA V5 or equivalent toolset.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary integrated product development environment.
