Job description

Role Summary As part of this role, the candidate should expect to carry out work within the following areas:

• Undertaking the responsibilities of NEC4 Supervisor for Generation 4 works packages
• Supervising works on the ground, ensuring compliance with the contract specification and safe working practice in accord with H&S and CDM Regulations.
• Issuing verbal and written instructions to Contractors and making instant decisions
• Assist in the identification and management of risks on-site to ensure safe passage of public and workforce through site areas, often in congested urban localities.
• Producing detailed progress records for retention in accord with organisational procedures.
• Instructing Contractors and clerk of works to ensure construction in compliance with the contract.
• Communicating with the public, business representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure their understanding of the concept and problems related to projects.
• Assist with the provision of basic design alterations to overcome unforeseen conditions arising on site.
• Inspecting the construction of proposed adoptable highway works, keep detailed site records and update HCC filling systems regarding the progress and status of Section 278 and 38 schemes.
• Liaising and negotiating with a wide range of professional, including developers and consultants, to agree all aspects of Section 38 and 278 Agreements. A full description of the candidate's role will be provided in the resource call off.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• NVQ Level 4 / Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Experience in the supervision of construction of civil engineering projects.
• Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, specifications and methods of measurement. * Knowledge of statutory regulations (chapter 8 TSM, NRSWA, Health and safety regulations)
• Some knowledge of the road adoption (S278 / 38) process is preferable Decision Making Areas
• Approval of contractors and developer's method of working and constructed works
• Approval of construction materials supplied for the works
• Monitoring and approval of health and safety method statements and plans
• Interpretation and modification of design

Working Conditions

• Site based. Will be provided with site office or a central office location.
• Constant working on live highways and construction sites, including lone working.
• Communicating with colleagues, contractors and developers in a challenging environment.
• Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role
