Job description

Contract duration: 9 months

Location: Whiteley (predominately remote)

Rate: £600 p/day UMB (Inside IR35)

Project Engineering Manager:

The purpose of the job is to lead the technical delivery of one high profile or multiple complex work packages. You will define and deliver the scope of activities within one or multiple work packages, with many moving parts, that is often loosely defined, requiring complex engineering techniques (F&O, Requirements Management, Design etc.) to deliver. You will also be a Technical Point of Contact for escalations from internal project stakeholders (including issues relating to 3rd party suppliers).

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and executing technical projects, defining the scope of activities for multiple work packages.
    • Ensure that the collection of work packages deliver a complete, coherent, sustainable and cost-effective solution to meet all stakeholder requirements
    • Engage with resource managers to ensure early deconfliction of resource constraints
  • Deliver the activities defined in the work package to Cost, Quality and Timescale targets, while collaborating across multiple delivery functions and SMEs (e.g. Safety, Supply Chain)
  • Build, own and update technical delivery plans while providing challenge and recommendations that allow for an effective and achievable plan to be deliverable.
  • Provides technical leadership and task management within a team of engineers.
  • Work with 3rd Party suppliers to manage the execution of out-sourced activities to the agreed plan, pro-actively managing emerging risks.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Ability to task manage multidisciplinary teams located across multiple sites; including integrated teams comprising permanent staff, temporary contractors and 3rd party suppliers, though effective delegation and prioritisation.

  • Ability to make key decisions independently and work under pressure

  • Ability to come up with ideas that focus on delivering pragmatic approaches and not just blindly following "what has always been done". Appreciating and able to balance cost, quality, and time.
  • Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders ranging from technical members of the team to senior (non technical) business stakeholders
  • Ability to translate complex engineering issues
  • Ability to resolve conflicts within teams through both empathy and driven leadership. Building positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent RQF level 6 or SCQF level 10 qualification) in an Engineering or Technology discipline and have experience of managing the technical delivery of complex projects following industry best practice techniques (preferably in a safety related sector).
