Job description

Position title: Software Engineer - Unity
Location: REMOTE with occasional visits to office in Hampshire. Working hours: 37.5hours per week
Reports to: (Job title) Software Team Lead
Department: Engineering
Job Purpose: Develop new 3D viewer capability, using Unity to build a 3D Globe tool that meets both engineering and marketing requirements. The role encompasses numerous tasks in support of the main Unity 3D scene, including UI, 3D modelling, networking and some 3D maths.
Scope / dimensions: A prototype system exists that solves a number of key problem areas in maths, maps and networking, this needs advancing into a deliverable and installable product.
A substantial amount of UI elements are required to control the viewer and allow interactions with entities within the viewer.
3D models exist for elements to be placed in the environment, requiring consistent handling of textures, orientation and scale. Geometry is also created programatically.
JSON networking (currently Newtonsoft) handling incoming data requires expanding to additional elements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for delivering a Unity 3D Globe Viewer to time, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Responsible for the JSON ICD defining the main interface.
  • General: Delivering tickets contributing to the overall build to time and quality expectations.
  • General: Integrating with the existing software to supply JSON formatted messages.
  • General: Integrating with the team and the pre-existing development processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Essential: Detailed knowledge and experience of developing 3D software in C# and Unity. Including threading and fps performance.
  • Essential: Experience in developing UIs in Unity. UI Toolkit is currently the prefered option.
  • Experience with 3D models (Blender).
  • Full understanding of the system engineering lifecycle and V-model.
  • Understanding networking issues, with JSON and ICDs.
Qualifications:
  • Essential: SC Cleared (or ability to obtain and maintain).
