We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Deign Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary design team, who are working at the cutting edge of electrical design and leading game-changing technology development.
You will have exciting opportunities in new product development from concept generation to detailed design and prototype build, through to deployment on grid and series production. You will also contribute on technical problem solving and continuous product improvement. You will work as part of focused team, often operating with significant autonomy, towards successful outcomes.
The successful candidate will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar and have 5+ years' experience in electrical panel circuit design, ideally, they have been exposed to power system design, and grid tie-ins / connections.
This is your role:


  • Lead and collaborate on the design of Mechnical panel & control cabinet internals which are interfaced with LV equipment while understanding the MV/HV context.

  • Design internally or oversee and validate design by 3rd parties

  • Experience of designing cooling systems. We need a liquid cooling loop designed from scratch.

  • Create specification documentation for suppliers & support management of procurement & construction.

  • Define test criteria for mechanical systems and support definition of both supplier & integrated test plans.

  • Carry out development of internal documentation defining installation & commissioning processes of the final systems

  • Attend and supervise Factory Acceptance Tests associated with the equipment as appropriate.

  • Work with and advise the simulation team, who are modelling of both internal equipment and its behavior in the wider power system.

  • Responsible for the overall specification of final equipment testing both at remote test sites & in house test sites.

  • Use technical experience and analytical thinking to solve complex technical issues.

  • Define, review and ensure compliance of internal and external technical standards.

  • The mentoring and development of more junior team members within the company with a view to ensuring engineers are adequately trained and have sufficient knowledge for their function.



What we are looking for:


  • Meeting the requirements of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you must have a proven track record in delivering design and projects for your discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience in similar roles.

  • Have a minimum of a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

  • knowledge of electrical protection systems, including their technical challenges and testing processes.

  • Understand the value of simulation and system study tools such as SIMULINK, DIgSILENT, ETAP, etc.

  • Working knowledge of grid connected power electronics such as solar inverters or wind turbine conversion systems.

  • Able to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of your discipline.

  • Ability to analyse complex engineering problems, from both technical and commercial viewpoints, to identify and deliver pragmatic solutions.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Capable of working with multi-disciplinary global teams with strong organization skills.

  • Proficient user of MS Office systems and engineering design software (AutoCad, eplan)

  • Understanding of Document Management System ensuring compliance with company product life cycle release processes.

  • Chair and participate in cross discipline Design Reviews for engineering solutions

  • Preparation of Bill of Materials with focus on delivering cost/availability optimised designs

  • Flexible approach and willing to travel when required.


Desirable:


  • Working knowledge of power electronics.

  • Familiarity with UK grid code.

  • Familiarity with BS EN, IEC and ENA standards relating to transformers, HV and LV switchgear.

  • Working knowledge of Transformers, STATCOM/SVC reactive power compensation equipment
