Job summary

Our client, a leading supplier of products and services to the Aerospace industry, are currently looking for Jig Borers to join them on a permanent basis out of their site in Southampton.

Important

Time-served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent industrial experience

Job description

This role will be working 06:00-14:15 (Mon-Thu) / 06:00-12:00 (Fri). However, they may consider someone on their late shift if preferred - 14:15-22:30 (Mon-Thu) / 12:00-18:00 (Fri).

Will include but is not limited to:

  • Operate and set up jig boring machines to perform precision machining operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine the machining requirements.
  • Select and install appropriate tools, fixtures, and workpieces on the machine.
  • Adjust machine settings, such as speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, to achieve precise tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Monitor the machining process and make necessary adjustments to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Inspect finished parts to verify conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the machine as needed, performing routine maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and communicate effectively to meet production goals and quality standards.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organised work area.

Preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience working within a precision machining environment. Training will be provided specific to the machining of composites and the control systems used on the machines.
  • Proven experience with jig boring.
  • A good knowledge of tool setting.
  • Must be able check their own work using standard dimensional checking equipment.
  • Good level of dexterity.
  • Competent in numeracy and literacy, computer use and able to read and understand technical documentation.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Drive to succeed as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Positive approach to problem solving.
  • Participating in training programmes and procedures.
  • Willing to learn and adapt with a strong focus on flexibility.
  • Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Excellent time keeping.
